The Red Monster is back!

Well, sort of. So as I posted previously, my sister has inherited my old comfy red couch. I loved that couch! And in addition to its comfiness, one of the other qualities that attracted me to it was its color - it was a beautiful red!

So... My other couch is not nearly as comfortable, but it is still a couch and in relatively good condition (well, as good as it gets with 2 years of a toddler who inevitably wanted to stand and jump on it). However, for years I lived with it in its ugly green cover. In my old apartment, its color wasn't too bad and it lived quite happily in the sun room area. However, once it got into this apartment, it really was a hideous green.


Once I decided to keep the couch, I knew I needed a new color makeover for it. So again, off to IKEA! It's a good thing for me that after 5 or so years, they still make the Klippan couch and in the same sizes. So, ta-da! My new couch color:

Sorry, a bit of a mess, but look at how pretty the red is (well, the actual red is actually much more beautiful in person. I guess you'll just have to see it for yourself to tell)! It's almost like I have a piece of my old couch back...

Go boom!

Ok, nothing actually went boom. But here was our day:

Hmmm, do these frames look like they would be worth $575? I don't care how much I like 'em, that's freakin' ridiculous! Even for titanium!


Funny bottle cap fortune that was stuck on a tip jar. Hahaha.


Mmmm... Pretty blueberry tart! And it tasted good too! Audrey hasn't lost her touch...

I forgot to mention that my mom and I caught the latest Indiana Jones film. The big #4. What can I say? I won't put any spoilers in here - I promise. I had heard pretty negative things from a lot of people before going in to see this. And more than usual, I had to suspend belief in reality. But, there were still entertaining parts to it. And let's be honest - it's Indy 4 - you kinda HAVE to see it, right?

3 stars out of 5. Simply because they finally made it. :)

First homecooked dinner

I made dinner in my kitchen for real tonight! Yay!

I made an heirloom tomato salsa and Fig and Blood Orange Glazed Pork Loin for dinner as per my old recipe.



Oh, and that wine? It's a cheap Australian Shiraz from Happy Llama (I bought it because I couldn't resist the name of the winery!) which was quite decent for the price.

Yummmm....

My new Citi Shoes

No, no typo! I got some new shoes, super comfy, from Citi Shoes. And it just so happens they are great city shoes as they are comfortable and flats. Check them out:

The De Young Museum Part Deux

I went to the De Young today again, this time with my mother. As a tip for anyone out there, the first Tuesday of each month has free admission, and if you have a MUNI pass or transfer, you get $2 off your admission price.

This time, the day was beautiful and our first stop was at the tower to get the gorgeous views of the city.

We then had fun exploring the museum. I took my mom to see the Patagonian vase (see my previous post) and other Dale Chihuly glass work in anticipation of the upcoming exhibit coming to the De Young.


I failed to mention in my last post that another one of my favorite sections of the De Young is their New Guinea artwork. The shields that they made were truly works of art.




And I'll end this post with a De Young signature look (they have a thing for circles apparently).

Compost? Compost!

Wow... Composting. I never thought I would ever do it. Not that I have a problem with it, but I never had a garden to do anything with compost and frankly, didn't really know much about it. But in Pittsburgh, where we do little to no recycling in general, it wasn't such a big deal.

Well, I am now here in SF and while I had been pretty good about separating paper and plastic, I never gave a thought to my other trash. My landlords pointed out yesterday that we have a compost bin and that paper towels and the like could also be put in compost. Well, I immediately began to wonder at what exactly could be composted. Turns out there is a website that tells me.

It's amazing the amount of stuff in our trash that is actually able to be used in compost. It makes me actually horrified that I hadn't been, and that other places still don't, doing this. So much of our trash can be used for good - and in SF, that means WINE as the compost goes to Napa Valley for some wineries to use! :D

I also found out about these biodegradable bags that you can use for storing compost trash before throwing it out in the trash.


Consider composting in your local area! And if they don't have it, consider writing to your local county government to institute it!
