So, we began our day off in Graceland. When in Memphis, you can’t not go see Elvis’ home! We arrived early and managed to get tickets for the normal Mansion tour (Note: AAA rate is better than the student rate. Weird, hunh?) Anyhoo, it was totally cheesy and awesome at the same time. Some of the rooms were pretty retro – quite cool – and the audio tour was pretty informative.
Towards the end of the tour, we started to hear thunder (Weather.com, 20%??? Really? Try 100% chance of thunderstorms and torrential downpour!). So we quickly tried to navigate our way through the rest of the tour in record time, taking pictures around the dawdlers and soon, we were off on the shuttle back to the parking lot. At this time, my sister and I decided on our exit strategy – she would pick out the 2 unknown items that she wanted from the gift shop then immediately go and get the truck. I would then grab the other items that she and I wanted, pay for them, then head out to meet my sister in the handicapped parking area (as close as she could drive to). As I was waiting for the checkout, the skies got darker, more thunder rumbled, and the wind picked up. As soon as I had the receipt in one hand and our items in the other, I powerwalked to the exit, and once I hit the outside pavement, off I went running.
I’ll admit, I got a few stares (from being Asian and at Garceland versus the running, I’ll never know). But darned if I wasn’t going to run as there was already fat droplets raining down. As I ran across the main walkway and towards the parking lot, I saw the Penske truck barreling into the parking lot and turned to a stop in front of me. As I yelled out a cheery “Good-Bye” to our fellow Graceland tourists (whom I had befriended on the tour), I jumped into the cab of our truck and the torrential downpour started.
Man, what timing we had.
